Family Awarded $130 Million in Medical Malpractice Case
A family has been awarded $130 million in a medical malpractice case involving their son. The boy, two months old at the time of the incident, suffered brain damage following treatment at a hospital in Suburban Detroit.
The incident occurred in 2006 at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak. According to the complaint, the staffers at the hospital delayed in calling for a “code blue.” The staff also reportedly failed to administer chest compressions to the child, which was part of the standard of care for the two-month-old at the time. As a result of inaction by the hospital staff, the boy’s brain was deprived of oxygen and he now suffers from cerebral palsy.
