Another Hip Lawsuit Hits Johnson and Johnson
Products Liability Lawyer: Days after a Texas jury paid out $1 billion to six patients over Johnson and Johnson’s hip replacement products, another lawsuit has been filed by man in Indiana. In early December, the man filed the lawsuit in Middlesex County, New Jersey, over the defective hip replacement devices, which are made by a subsidiary of Johnson and Johnson. He claims he endured “constantly debilitating pain and instability,” due to the DePuy Orthopaedics product, after undergoing one hip replacement operation in 2008 and then another in 2014 that was supposed to remedy the problem. Allegedly, the metal-on-metal version of the product, named ULTAMET Metal-on-Metal, allows for metal particles to infiltrate the bloodstream of the recipient, which may cause extreme pain and inflammation. The defects in the product may also cause bone erosion, tumors, and tissue death. Johnson and Johnson, one of the largest pharmaceutical companies in the world, faces at least 8000 lawsuits over the defective hip replacement devices.
Patients undergo complicated surgeries in order to improve their health. When a product fails to correct the medical issue from which the patient suffers, or even causes further damage due to defects in the product, the patient’s health is jeopardized. Recovery may be more challenging, and the patient could be in danger of undergoing more expensive and difficult surgeries to correct the problems.
