5 Injured in Pennsylvania Bus Crash, Driver Facing DUI Charges

A Philadelphia bus crash has left five people injured and one man facing drunk driving charges. The injured are now in stable condition according to reports.

On July 13, around 2 p.m., a SEPTA paratransit bus was traveling through the intersection at 6th and Cambria Streets in the Fairhill area of Philadelphia. A 48-year-old driver in a Cadillac failed to stop at the red light and also entered the intersection, colliding with the side of the bus. The bus then overturned and crashed into a stoplight pole. Authorities say that the Cadillac driver exited his vehicle and attempted to escape on foot following the accident. Police caught up to him, however, and took him into custody.

One witness at the scene of the crash said that he raced across the street to help those who were injured. Emergency crews transported five of the people involved in the accident to two local hospitals. Three bus passengers suffered facial lacerations as well as neck and back injuries and were taken to Temple University Hospital. The driver of the bus was taken to Hahnemann University Hospital along with an injured pedestrian who was at the scene. Authorities cleared the scene of the accident several hours after the crash following an investigation of the scene. The Cadillac driver has been charged with driving under the influence.
